Grebes are members of the Podicipediformes order. Grebes are small to medium-large in size, have lobed toes, and are excellent swimmers and divers. However, they have their feet placed far back on the body, making them quite ungainly on land. Cormorants are medium-to-large seabirds. The majority have mainly dark plumage. They are coastal rather than oceanic birds, and some have colonised inland waters.
The herons are wading birds in the Ardeidae family. Some are called egrets or bitterns instead of herons. The members of this family are all primarily associated with wetlands, and prey on fish, frogs and other aquatic species. Some nest colonially in trees, others, notably the bitterns, use reedbeds. Storks are large, long-legged, long-necked wading birds with long stout bills, belonging to the family Ciconiidae. They occur in most of the warmer regions of the world and tend to live in drier habitats than the related herons, spoonbills and ibises.
